You have let Ruto down - Senator Cheruiyot to CS and 2 PSs

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has called out Health CS Deborah Barasa and her two Principal Secretaries for undermining the Senate

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has called out Health CS Deborah Barasa and her two Principal Secretaries for undermining the Senate.

While the Ministry of Health officials appeared before the Senate on Wednesday, February 26, Cheruiyot took issue with the officials for missing a retreat organised by the Senate.

At the retreat, the CS and PSs were to address various issues raised by the Senators on SHA and other government programmes.

He acknowledged that the health officials attended a similar retreat of the National Assembly questioning their absence at the one organised by the Senate.

Cheruiyot detailed that health was a devolved function, further expressing that the officials had let down President William Ruto by snubbing the senate.

“You have not been able to lead your Ministry to have a serious engagement with the Senate of Kenya. For that, I hold no other person responsible other than you CS (Barasa). That is unacceptable to us,” he stated.

“I am terribly disappointed. PS Harry and Muthoni know this. You are my friends but you have let your boss down.”

On the other hand, the Senator urged the CS to engage with local leaders to find out about the experiences of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“We passed those four laws knowing that SHA was going to be transformational. Do not sit in the office and listen to the choir at the office,” Cheruiyot added.

“Come and listen to the representatives of the people so that they can tell you the challenges the people are facing.”
