6Kg cooking gas to cost Ksh300 up from KSh 2000 in 4 months-Ruto

Ruto announces that the prices of cooking gas will be reduced from Ksh 2,000 to Ksh300 by the month of June

Ruto announces that the prices of cooking gas will be reduced from Ksh 2,000 to Ksh300 by the month of June.

Speaking during the launch of the Women Fund at KICC on Thursday, March 2, the President indicated that the move was aimed at reducing the cost of living.

The president added that the new price would range from Ksh300 as a minimum to a maximum of Ksh500.

“I have stated that from the month of June, we will put plans in place to ensure that women use clean energy. The first thing that we will do is remove the gas tax. That eight percent the government takes will be removed to allow more Kenyans to have gas.

“Today, Kenyans are buying gas at Ksh2,800 and we are saying that we shall put government money in the sector. The 6kg will be Ksh500 or Ksh300,” Ruto announced.

On the other hand, he warned unscrupulous business individuals who were planning on taking advantage of the directive that they would be placed under the microscope.

“I must warn those refilling gas because a number refill the gas on substandard cylinders which have caused a lot of harm. Your days are numbered.

“Some people are also very clever. They say that they have refilled a 6kg cooking gas but in the true sense, the gas inside is only 3kgs. All these people must be removed from this business,” he affirmed.

Ruto gave the Interior Ministry the order to start registering all petrol stations in order to make sure they had licenses.

The announcement by Ruto came after he launched the Taifa Gas plant at the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone in Likoni Constituency.

He said at the occasion that the tax cut was a part of the government’s efforts to have all schools using LPG gas by 2025.

“By 2025, we expect all our schools and other institutions to have put in place mechanisms that ensure a modern way of cooking by cooking gas,” the President announced.
