7 mistakes students make during degree and TVET course applications; KUCCPS

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has identified 7 common mistakes students make when applying for university and TVET courses.

In a statement dated Monday, April 7, KUCCPS revealed that some students fail to apply for the courses by leaving the selected courses in the course basket.

“Application does not end at the course basket. You must submit an application to be considered. To submit, click the ‘application/revision’ button, then apply now,” read the statement in part.

On the other hand, the placement body also noted that some students only apply for one course, and this limits one’s chance of getting placed at an institution.

Additionally, some students also choose the same course for all four available slots. Most affected students are those who are interested in courses like Medicine, Nursing and Engineering.

“Another mistake is arranging courses randomly in the application form. When applying, ensure you arrange the courses in your order of priority, with choice 1 being your most preferred course and choice 4 being your least preferred. Otherwise, you could miss your preferred course.”

“Another mistake is that students select only one course in one institution. Applying for only one course in one institution limits your chances of being placed,” KUCCPS explained.

Equally, there are students who provide wrong phone numbers in the contact list.

“If you fill out the contact form with incorrect details, you risk missing out on important KUCCPS communication that is sent to applicants periodically through the contacts they submitted,” the placement body added.

Lastly, KUCCPS highlighted mistakes students when when making the payments.

“Mistake 7 is using the M-Pesa transaction ID to submit the application instead of the eCitizen account. Use the eCitizen account to submit. eCitizen account is indicated in the middle of the M-Pesa payment confirmation SMS and is made up of alphabetical letters only,” read the statement in part.
