Arsenal shifts transfer focus to Lisandro Martinez after Raphinha snub
Arsenal shifts transfer focus to Ajax defender Martinez after Raphinha agrees to join Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta has now shifted his focus to Ajax player, Lisandro Martinez after Raphinha snub.
The Brazilian is close in on the move to Chelsea despite being destined for Arsenal.
Raphinha is now expected to join Chelsea in a deal worth around £55m.
The Leeds United winger has been linked with a move to the Gunners and Barcelona, but Thomas Tuchel has managed to convince the player to sign for the Blues instead.
This is a major blow for Mikel Arteta, who was hoping to all but wrap up his summer business with the signings of Raphinha, Gabriel Jesus, and Lisandro Martinez.
Arsenal shifts transfer focus to Lisandro Martinez
Arsenal are pushing hard to wrap up the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
Edu has been extremely proactive in this window by already completing three signings in the same month of the market opening.
Lisandro Martinez could be the Gunners’ fifth capture this summer after Marqininhos, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and, Gabriel Jesus.
Martinez is Arsenal’s top choice, according to The Athletic, because the 24-year-old can play both left-back and center-back.
Martinez reportedly wants to transfer to the Emirates Stadium, and it is said that Ajax turned down a bid of around £25 million.
The Telegraph reports that Arsenal made a second offer for the defender on Monday worth approximately €40 million (£34 million). This increased their pursuit of the defender.
Although it is a better offer, Ajax is reportedly willing to let the player go for €50 million (£43 million).
