Azimio coalition hits out at West-international community over alleged silence on police brutality while vocal on LGBTQ.

The leader of Azimio La Umoja has once more criticized the international community for their apparent silence regarding the deaths that occurred during the anti-government protests.

Eugene Wamalwa, the leader of DAP-K, questioned why the world community was quick to act on Uganda over LGBTQ but kept mum on the killings that happened in Kenya.

“We are left wondering whether LGBTQ rights are more important than innocent Kenyans who are being massacred left right and centre,” Eugene said.

Wamalwa was responding to the move by World Bank to deny Uganda funding for passing anti-LGBTQ laws.

The World Bank said on Tuesday that the law contradicted its values and it would suspend new funding until it could test measures to prevent discrimination in projects it finances.

“We believe our vision to eradicate poverty on a livable planet can only succeed if it includes everyone irrespective of race, gender, or sexuality. This law undermines those efforts. Inclusion and non-discrimination sit at the heart of our work around the world,” it said in a statement.

He was among a host of leaders who attended the funeral of the victims of alleged police brutality in Vihiga County on Saturday where he made the remarks.

The funeral service was held at Esiandumba Primary in Luanda Sub-county.

“We are currently on the move to seek evidence against the government and we have strong lawyers on the ground to ensure our people get Justice,” Wamalwa said.

Others present were ODM leader Raila Odinga, his spouse IDA, area governor Wilber Ottichilo, Former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, and Senator Godfrey Osotsi among many other leaders.

Wamalwa said over 70 people were killed allegedly by police during the anti-government protests.
