Azimio-Kenya Kwanza supporters clash at Jacaranda grounds; Babu Owino opponent injured
Azimio-Kenya Kwanza supporters on Sunday, 17, June clashed at Jacaranda grounds as police were deployed to restore order.
A standoff ensued at Jacaranda grounds, Nairobi after Azimio-Kenya Kwanza supporters clashed over the venue.
Both factions had claimed to have booked the venue leading to a double-booking.
DP William Ruto, however, insisted that he will head to the venue for a rally after church.
In a statement, the Ruto affirmed that the planned rally in Embakasi East was still on, with reports that police had sealed off the venue.
“The Kenya Kwanza fraternity and the entire hustler nation wishes a blessed Sunday to all na tukutane (and let’s meet at) Jacaranda after church,” stated the DP.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who is affiliated with Azimio la Umoja had announced that had booked the venue for his own function.
He however canceled his event after the Kenya Kwanza faction laid claim to the venue.
“We have decided to cancel tomorrow’s rally scheduled at Jacaranda Grounds. People should go about their normal business,” he announced.
However, Violence broke out among the supporters of Azimio and Kenya Kwanza with Embakasi East parliamentary UDA candidate Francis Mureithi sustaining injuries.
Mureithi is Babu’s main opponent in the Embakasi East parliamentary seat.
Another lady was also injured in the melee that led to the arrest of an unidentified individual.
