Azimio lawmaker says Kimani Ichung’wah is not 'qualified' to lead Kenya Kwanza in the bipartisan talks

Azimio lawmaker says Kimani Ichung’wah is not ‘qualified’ to lead Kenya Kwanza in the bipartisan talks.

According to Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, the Kenya Kwanza coalition is not dedicated to the new round of bipartisan negotiations with the opposition.

On Monday, August 14, Osotsi remarked that Kenya Kwanza should look for another person to lead the government discussions since Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader of the National Assembly, cannot be compared to Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party leaading Azimio team.

“The leader of our team is Kalonzo Musyoka a man with an international stature look at the other side they are being led by a heckler called Kimani Ichung’wah. I hope that they will do better in these talks,” said Osotsi

He added, “Maybe they should have tried somebody like my brother Musalia Mudavadi against Kalonzo that would make sense. But now bringing Ichung’wah a man who can be compared to Kariuki Chotara in the KANU days.”

The ODM senator accused Ichung’wah of shunning the media way during last week’s negotiations despite the Azimio side welcoming them.

“You know they had challenged us they wanted it to be public and we said we are ready. When they went for the first meeting, the first person to oppose the live interview was Kimani Ichung’wah. Azimio was prepared to make it live,” claimed Osotsi.

Meanwhile, the bipartisan talks resumed on Monday after both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio formed technical committees.

The technical teams will assist the bipartisan teams led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka (Azimio) and National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah (Kenya Kwanza).

The issues set for discussion include the cost of living, audit of the 2022 Presidential Election Results, restructuring and reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and related matters, measures to prevent interference with political parties, and outstanding constitutional matters – governance issues, adequate checks and balances, and the question of boundaries delimitation, for Azimio.

The Kenya Kwanza team had also listed their five issues including the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund and the establishment, entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
