Azimio wants an inquiry into Ruto’s subsidized fertilizer saying it is shrouded by a lot of secrecy

Azimio wants an inquiry into Ruto’s subsidized fertilizer programme saying the procurement is shrouded by a lot of secrecy.

The leadership of Azimio la Umoja has instructed their MPs to launch an investigation into President William Ruto’s purchase of subsidized fertilizer.

The procurement process has been shrouded in a lot of secrecy, according to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who said this during a press conference on Friday, September 30.

Kalonzo who was flanked by Azimio politicians Kalonzo poked holes into Ruto’s promises stating that the first campaign promise was to the lowering of the cost of living.

However, the price of basic commodities has continued to soar with the price of Unga fuel and electricity hitting record highs.

“These are matters we feel should take pre-eminence in these early days. Just like there was the rush to subsidize fertilizer on September 19, the same urgency should have first and foremost been applied to the rapidly rising cost of living. We also question how this fertilizer was procured; when it was procured; and, where it was sourced from.”We ask: does it meet the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) standards? This administration must therefore make public the procurement process of this fertilizer subsidy. We have directed our MPs to commence an inquiry into the same.

Kalonzo accused Ruto of using the sorry state of the economy to assure Kenyans paradise, but none of that has been reflected.

Kalonzo also noted that some of the people Ruto picked as Cabinet Secretary nominees have criminal cases and they will ask their MPs not to approve them.

“This was not procedurally done, on the basis of competencies and personal integrity and we shall direct our MPs to withhold approval of those who do not meet the Chapter Six threshold of our Constitution.”
