Battle for parliament majority seats; Ruto’s UDA party leads in candidates for elective seats
Ruto’s UDA party leads in most candidates sponsored for elective seats according to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Gazette Notice.
Both Raila Odinga and William Ruto are battling for control of parliament to have an easy running of the government in the event either wins the presidential race in the August polls.
The two presidential frontrunners have instructed their lieutenants to campaign as a team to win all the seats on their home turf.
This is meant to consolidate resources and help prop up some candidates who may not be strong individually but can benefit from team effort.
Raila and Ruto have also tasked their teams to embark on door-to-door campaigns and brand the independents and those of other parties as agents of rival camps who should be rejected.
This is in a bid to ensure their respective coalitions wins majority in the National Assembly, Senate, Council of Governors, and county assembles.
Raila has been rallying for election of ODM and Azimio candidates at his political rallies.
“Don’t vote for me and leave me isolated in Parliament. I do not want to be a captive president. My opponents will intimidate me with impeachment every day. I want you to give me MPs and MCAs,” Raila said during a campaign tour of Nairobi.
