A family spokesperson has revealed intricate details about the late gospel artist Betty Bayo’s ailment and last moments before tragically passing away.
In a statement on Monday, November 10, shortly after her passing, the family revealed that the 11th Hour hitmaker had been receiving treatment for blood cancer at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
While describing the loss as a huge blow to the family and the gospel fraternity, the family spokesperson revealed the singer had been in the hospital for the better part of November before her demise.
“We want to tell the public that today at 1:03pm, we lost Betty Bayo. It is no longer a rumour; it is the truth,” the spokesperson said during a briefing.
The artist was initially diagnosed with acute mild leukaemia, which resulted in excessive bleeding.
According to the family, while Betty Bayo’s leukaemia diagnosis was familiar to them, the illness progressed rapidly over the last few weeks to the point she required intensive care.

“Betty has been unwell since last week; she was diagnosed with acute mild cancer—leukaemia. Betty was transferred to KNH on Friday, as she was suffering from excessive bleeding. The doctors tried their best, but the will of God has prevailed,” the family said.
Pastor Victor Kanyari, who is Betty Bayo’s ex-husband, was also present at the Kenyatta National Hospital during the briefing by the family.
Kanyari took to his social media shortly after Betty Bayo passed away to mourn the artist, with whom he shares two children.
Hours after her passing, plans were already underway by the family to move Betty Bayo’s body from Kenyatta National Hospital to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary. The burial date is yet to be announced.
Besides her gospel hits, Betty Bayo’s publicity pivoted at some point, particularly because of her vulnerability and openness regarding her personal life.
During her latter years, Betty Bayo also became renowned for her motivational words and content creation, where she often spoke about her faith and healing.
