Big names miss out on Ruto’s list of Principal Secretarie among them, IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati’s wife Mary Chebukati.
A list of the recommended candidates for the 51 Principal Secretary positions was released by Chief of Staff Felix Koskei of President William Ruto on Wednesday, November 2.
However, a group of applicants who had previously breezed through the first round of applications and had their names given to the Head of State for consideration were conspicuously absent.
In the shortlist were a couple of big names who did not make it to the final list.
Mary Chebukati, the wife of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati, came in first place on the list.
IEBC Commissioner Boya Molu and former Nominated Member of Parliament David Ole Sankok were among the other shortlisted candidates that were eliminated.

Isaac Mwaura
The former nominated senator joined the Kenya Kwanza Presidential Campaign Secretariat after losing at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries in the Ruiru constituency.
Mercy Mwangangi
She served in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government as the Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health.
Mary Chebukati
She had also made it to the shortlist of the hopefuls looking forward to taking up the principal secretaries’ positions in the Kenya Kwanza government. Mary is the wife of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
Caroline Karugu
The former Nyeri deputy governor had a strained working relationship with Governor Mutahi Kahiga since April 2019, when she was appointed his deputy, culminating in a court case against the governor for withholding her allowances. On May 4, 2022, then-president Uhuru Kenyatta nominated 22 Kenyans, including Karugu, to Kenya’s missions abroad, but she was not vetted for the role.
Patrick Amoth
He is the acting Director General for Health in the Ministry of Health. He is also the Vice President of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), representing the African region.
Others include, Former MP and Governor contestant Trans Nzoia County, Chris Wamalwa, Moses Lenolkulal – Former Samburu Governor among others.
