Brian Odhiambo’s family members arrested outside KWS gates

The family of Brian Odhiambo, a 31-year-old who reportedly went missing on January 18, have been arrested outside the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) gates at Lake Nakuru.
Among those arrested are Brian’s mother, Elizabeth Auma, his wife, and the brother, who were allegedly protesting against the kin’s disappearance.
While confirming their detention, human rights activist and Vocal Africa Chief Executive Officer, Hussein Khalid, revealed that the family members were arrested while seeking answers after reports emerged that Brian’s body had been seen inside the park.
“Brian Odhiambo’s wife, mother, and brother have been arrested while protesting outside the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) gate at Lake Nakuru. They were seeking answers after reports emerged that Brian’s body had been seen inside the park,” Hussien commented.
The activist went ahead to share an image showing Odhiambo’s family members, including the latter’s mother, inside a vehicle believed to belong to police officers.
The images shared by Khalid on his X account further depicted a man believed to be a police officer seated beside Brian’s wife. However, it is not yet clear who ordered their arrests.
Their arrest comes hardly three weeks after Brian’s mother pleaded with the government to release the body of her son, who was allegedly found floating in Lake Nakuru.
Addressing the press on February 17, Odhiambo’s mother narrated how people believed to be KWS officers reportedly took her son’s body after retrieving it from the lake.

According to her, the body was first spotted by two young men who had gone fishing in Lake Nakuru.
However, before they could retrieve the body, the officers arrived.
Attempts by the youthful fishermen to stop the officers from taking away Brian’s body proved futile, as the armed KWS officials allegedly threatened to shoot them.
“The young men found my son’s body in the water on Monday, but before they could remove the body, a boat carrying KWS officers arrived. They attempted to stop the officers, but they were threatened,” Brian’s mother narrated.
“The officers intervened and took the body before they rode away; they did not harm the boys. They aimed to take the body away,” she claimed.
Despite making the claims three weeks ago, the government, including the KWS management, has yet to respond to the allegations.
