CA revokes licenses of 155 service providers
The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) has carried out a regulatory sweep under the authority of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, resulting in the revocation of 155 service provider licences.
The revocations were announced in a gazette dated October 16, which stated that they would become effective seven days from the date of the notice.
The notice added that, after seven days, the listed licensees would no longer be authorised to operate or provide services.
“Notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, that the Communications Authority of Kenya shall revoke the licences of the following service providers within Seven (7) days from the date of this Gazette Notice,” the notice read in part.
The authority stated that any resources held under these licences would revert to them.
The licences targeted by the authorities span the key communications sector.

Cancellation will affect 58 licences belonging to Application Service Providers (ASPs), 19 licences held by Network Facilities Providers (NFPs) and 78 licences belonging to Content Service Providers (CSPs).
Apart from revocation, the authority listed six companies that had applied for commercial communication licences.
“Notice is given that the following applicants have, pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, made applications to the Communications Authority of Kenya for grant of the licences,” notice added.
Authority stated that if the licenses are granted, they will enable the applicants to operate and provide the services.
It, however, urged public that if any individuals have any objections to the listed providers they they should send their objections to the authority.
“The Authority wishes to notify the general public that any legal or natural person, or group of individuals, who are desirous of making any representation and/or any objection to the said applications, to do so vide a letter addressed to their official page,” it added.
