Central Kenya MPs demand more PS and CAS positions some allies said to be disgruntled over recent appointments
Central Kenya MPs demand more PS and CAS positions in Ruto’s gov’t with some allies said to be disgruntled over recent appointments.
Members of parliament from Kiambu county urge President William Ruto to increase the number of appointments he has made from the county after the recruitment of new Cabinet Secretaries.
The 1.2 million registered voters handed Ruto 606,429 votes, outweighing votes from all other regions, according to the MPs, who argued that he must increase the county’s representation in the national government.
The Central Kenya MPs from Kiambu; Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Mburu Kahangara (Lari), George Koimburi (Juja), and Elijah Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North) told Ruto to consider appointing more leaders from Kiambu to the positions of Principal Secretary and Chief Administrative Secretary for better representation.
Speaking during celebrations to mark the achievement of former Gatundu North MP Francis Kigo Njenga who was recently awarded a doctorate degree, the legislators urged Ruto to ensure fairness in the distribution of government positions for all Kenyans to feel like part of his government.
They notably encouraged Ruto to take into consideration appointing a leader from Gatundu North, which has been years without a representative in the national government.
The MPs specifically singled Kigo, who ran unsuccessfully for the office of MP on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, and suggested that Ruto think about appointing him.
Only one of the twelve parliamentary seats up for election in the county was not won by UDA—Kigo lost the seat of Gatundu North to Kururia, an independent candidate and former MCA.
“Ruto should make sure that anybody who was part of the team that helped him ascend to the highest office is part of the government. The president has been promising to hire those who unsuccessfully vied for various positions. On behalf of the Kiambu team, we are pushing to have Kigo Njenga appointed having been a devoted general. We cannot allow his doctorate degree to go to waste and for this, we are advocating for his appointment to a higher position,” Wamuchomba said.
“We are united as Kiambu MPs to say that Kigo, our fallen soldier who is equal to the task, must be given a position in the Kenya Kwanza government. We are pushing this as a team and we are sure President Ruto will hear us,” Kahangara noted.
“Consider the votes we gave you to become president and appoint Kigo Njenga in your government. He has been a loyal general and has devotedly fought for the UDA fraternity.
So far, only Moses Kuria from Kiambu County has been appointed to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Investment, and Industry.
The appointment of Kuria, however, left some of Ruto’s allies feeling disgruntled and hopeful that they will be considered for the PS and CAS jobs.
