Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia set to quit at the end of the transfer window

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia set to quit at the end of the transfer window after her decade stay at the club.

Chelsea director and transfer chief Marina Granovskaia is set to leave Chelsea in August, according to reports in Germany.

The news comes just days after a consortium led by American tycoon Todd Boehly completed its £4.25billion takeover of the Premier League club.

And Atletico Madrid director of football Andrea Berta is the first choice to replace her.

Granovskaia worked on transfers and contracts under Roman Abramovich.

She became his representative at the club in 2010 and then joined the board in 2013 before becoming chief executive the following year.

She had been expected to stay at Stamford Bridge following the Boehly takeover but has opted to step away from the club, according to BILD. Chairman Bruce Buck is set to remain in place.

Thomas Tuchel had publicly expressed his desire for Granovskaia, who won the award for best sporting director at the most recent Golden Boy awards, to stay in her role after stressing the need for continuity as the club embarks on a new era.

‘I can only tell you until now it was an excellent relationship that worked so well for me and also hopefully the two others to take these decisions and have updates in a small circle of communication and responsibility,’ Tuchel said.

But Julian Knight, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee warned those involved with Chelsea under Abramovich should not be part of the Stamford Bridge revolution.

Any continuity with the Abramovich regime at Chelsea is certainly an unsettling development,’ Knight told the Financial Times.

‘There needs to be clarity surrounding the process to ensure that everything is being done to the letter.’

According to reports, the sale of Chelsea to Boehly and Clearlake Capital will net Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia £20 million.

Following the relaxation of Government sanctions imposed in reaction to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Granovskaia’s final significant duty at the club will be to oversee the spending of a £200 million that will be given to manager Thomas Tuchel as he seeks to renovate his squad.
