In a gazette notice dated September 26, 2025, Koome said that the officers will preside over cases within their current court stations and any future stations to which they may be deployed.
The appointment of the officers took effect on September 1 and will last for a period of 12 months, according to the CJ.
Among those appointed are Manuela Kinyanjui, Mercy Nkirote Kinyua, Dennis Nguli Kioko, Jacklyne Tawai Khalimesi, Jacinta Mwangi Wangeci, Philomena Nafula Makokha, Grace Mutemi, John Ogutu Ochieng, Larry Kombe Matawi, Lucy Gitari Wanja, and Victor Shivega.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(2) of the Small Claims Court Act, 2016, I, Martha K. Koome, Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, designates the following Judicial Officers as Adjudicators in any proceedings under the Act in the areas of jurisdiction of their current court stations and futurestations deployed from time to time, for a period of twelve (12) months, with effect from the 1st September, 2025,” Koome stated.

The function of small claims courts in the country is to provide a fast, affordable, and simple way to resolve civil disputes involving claims up to Ksh1 million.
In these courts, the adjudicators act as judges and will have the responsibility of presiding over cases by maintaining court order, applying the law to the facts of the case, and upholding the integrity and independence of the court.
The announcement comes a week after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced the promotion of 117 judicial officers in various commissions within the service.
In a statement on Thursday, September 18, the Secretary of JSC, Winfridah Mokaya, said that the promotions were made after the service conducted interviews of the candidates between August 4th and 13th and were later ratified by the commission during a meeting held on 11th and 15th September.
According to the statement, nine judges were promoted to the position of Chief Magistrate, 67 were promoted to the position of Senior Principal Magistrates, six to the position of Principal Magistrates, 15 to Senior Principal Kadhis, and 20 to Principal Kadhis.
“The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved the promotion of 117 Judicial Officers following interviews conducted between 4th and 13th August 2025. The promotions, ratified during Commission meetings held on 11th and 15th September 2025, took effect immediately,” the statement read.
