David Maraga dismisses viral tweet purporting he endorsed Ruto’s win
David Maraga dismisses a viral tweet that has been going round on social media purporting he endorsed William Ruto’s win.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has dismissed the originality of a viral tweet credited to him.
The tweet claims that Maraga said President-elect William Ruto should be sworn in on September 30, as he won fairly.
Through a statement dated Tuesday, August 23, the former President of the Supreme Court flagged the social media post, which had gone viral, as fake and misleading.
“This tweet circulating on social media purporting to be authored by me is FAKE, please ignore,” he tweeted.
The social media post shared widely, indicated that the emeritus Chief Justice had accused the Head of State of coercing Supreme Court judges over the nine petitions filed.
The fake post also indicated that Maraga had directed the Supreme Court to drop the cases and allow Ruto to be sworn in by August 30.
Raila and his running mate Martha Karua moved to the Supreme Court, challenging Ruto’s win and asking the court to declare the Presidential Election results announced on August 15 null and void.
