DCI responds over alleged ‘abduction’ of Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Murang'a MCA Grace Nduta amid growing speculation over her alleged disappearance
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta amid growing speculation over her alleged disappearance.
In a statement on Thursday, May 29, the DCI dismissed reports of Nduta’s abduction, stating that her arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi.
“We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi,” read the statement.
The DCI further revealed that evidence contradicted Nduta’s earlier claims about her whereabouts on the night Koimburi was allegedly abducted.
“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night,” the DCI said.
Earlier, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata claimed that the MCA was allegedly taken by unknown persons under unclear circumstances.
He further stated that he visited the police station where Nduta was reportedly held, but found no evidence of her presence there.
“Grace ‘City’ Nduta, MCA for Kanyenyaini Ward, has been picked up by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports had suggested she is in Samuru Police Post in Gatanga.

“I have visited the post to no avail. The county will endeavour to trace her, particularly because of her beloved children,” he said.
Koimburi ‘disappeared’ on Sunday, May 25, and resurfaced the following day at a coffee plantation in Githunguri before being hospitalised at a Nairobi hospital.
Come Wednesday, May 28, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja asserted that preliminary investigations were pointing to a staged abduction.
According to the police, the MP spent the night at the hotel and was transported to the scene of the crime on Monday morning.
“One suspect, Karanja Gatana, has been arrested. Gatana admitted to dropping the MP at a hotel where he had refreshments and spent the night with two abductors on May 25.
“He admitted that on May 26, while using another vehicle, he picked up the MP from the hotel and took him to the scene where they claimed that he had been dumped. Before the MP exited the motor vehicle, he helped him tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture by the alleged abductors,” he said.
