Ousted DP Rigathi Gachagua summoned by DCI over attempted assassination claims.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after the latter claimed there were two attempts to assassinate him before the impeachment motion.
In a letter dated October 21, 2024, DCI asked Gachagua to appear at the DCI Headquarters on Tuesday, October 22, to record a statement following the claims.
“These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly. In light of the seriousness of this matter we kindly request your presence on 22nd October 2024 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Mazingira Complex-Kiambu Road, to formally record your statement to enable prompt and thorough investigations into the matter,” DCI said in the letter.
The investigating agency noted that because of the sensitivity of the matter, the case will be handled with the seriousness it deserves.
“Your statement is a crucial component of our investigation,” DCI added.
Speaking outside the Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua claimed that there were two attempts on his life.

He said the first attempt to assassinate him involved having an undercover agent poison his food.
“On the 30th of August, undercover security agents entered my room in Kisumu and one of them tried to poison my food but we detected it and we were able to escape the scheme. I was supposed to be killed through food poisoning,” he said.
Gachagua noted that the second attempt to take him out happened in Nyeri where National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives were sent to poison food meant for him and the Kikuyu Council of Elders.
“on the 3rd of September, another team from the NIS came to Nyeri and tried to poison food that was meant for me and the Kikuyu Council of Elders. I did report this matter to the NIS and the officers who were assigned to my office, I asked them to leave because I felt I was not safe,” he alleged.
