DCI unearth contents of servers confiscated during Ruto’s-linked office raid
DCI unearth contents of servers confiscated during Ruto’s-linked office raid located at Transnational Plaza in Nairobi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Sunday, July 24 raided an office linked to Deputy President William Ruto located at Transnational Plaza on the ninth floor.
According to Nairobi Police boss James Mugera, police were informed of the movements and that there were servers with crucial information.
Mugera, in an address to the press, noted that the raid was meant to confirm reports that an election-related server was being hosted in the office.
Police revealed that the two servers, they confiscated were being relocated to Thika, Kiambu county as the building was undergoing renovation.
“Two private servers were being moved… We are here to verify,” Mugera stated.
The police put to task the owners of the servers, who explained that they hosted mobile banking data from 18 Saccos.
“We found the information to be very sensitive and decided to come and establish what it is. We have since established that the owners of the servers were moving them to Thika because that place is being renovated.”
“The owner is telling us he uses them to host 18 Sacco’s mobile banking data but this is information that will be verified by investigators. It’s not a criminal offence to move servers but we act on any tip we receive. We came to establish what it is that they do. If we’re satisfied, fine, but for now it’s a matter under investigation,” Mugera stated.
According to reports, some of the tenants of the building alleged that the previous occupants began vacating the premises on Saturday night, July 23.
Other sources claimed that the servers were being relocated to a new head office.
Nairobi Police boss Mugera said they had traced the places where the other computers and servers had been taken to and would seek to access them.
The office at Transnational plaza used to be Ruto’s private office when he was the higher education minister under the grand coalition government.
At one point, it was used as the offices of URP, which was the DP’s party in 2013.
One of the DP’s handlers who asked not to be named said he no longer uses the office.
“You can say he has not been there for long. Some of his people could be visiting there but not him,” said the handler.
This comes amidst a fallout between the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the DCI following the arrest of three Venezuelan nationals who were nabbed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in possession of electoral materials.
