Debate on who won August polls returns as whistleblower claims Raila got 8.1 million votes against Ruto’s 5.9 million

Debate on who won August polls returns as whistleblower claims Raila got 8.1 million votes against Ruto's 5.9 million

Whistleblower claims Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga floored President William Ruto in the August polls

Whistleblower claims Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga floored President William Ruto in the August polls.

According to the opposition coalition, a whistleblower reported that Ruto received 5,915,973 votes, or 41.66 percent of the total votes cast, while Raila received 8,170,355 votes or 57.53 percent.

An Azimio affiliate party, Jubilee Party said on Wednesday that the coalition party is in agreement with the whistleblower.

“We have no reason to doubt the information, which confirmed our fears,” Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni said.

Jubilee party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni claimed that manipulation of the election results mostly occurred in the Mt Kenya region.

“This is a very sad moment for us as a country. More information on the next course of action will be shared later by leaders if the coalition,” he stated.

Kioni said at a press conference in Nairobi that Raila will make a comprehensive statement once he returns to the country from South Africa.

The whistleblower should be believed, according to Kioni, as he disclosed his identity and contacts.

“Since last year we maintained that the elections did not reflect the will of Kenyans. We still maintain that there was manipulation and rigging,” he added.

He said a casual perusal of the document shared by the whistle-blower shows results announced in 144 constituencies varied with what was declared at the national tallying centre.

Kioni added that Raila would also make a statement regarding allegations that a plot to assassinate former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati during the tallying of the presidential results had been made.

The creation of a commission of inquiry to look into an alleged assassination plot against Chebukati has been urged by associates of Raila.

They asserted that the claims by President Ruto were serious allegations and needed to be uncovered; adding that the inquiry must also cover past elections where other electoral officials had lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.
