Musalia Mudavadi reveals of a meeting between President Ruto and DP Gachagua ahead of the Madaraka Day event

Musalia Mudavadi reveals of a meeting between President Ruto and DP Gachagua ahead of the Madaraka Day event.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has refuted claims that President William Ruto was referring to his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua when he issued a warning against engaging in what he termed as “divisive politics.”

In an interview on Citizen TV last night, Mudavadi, like other leaders, insisted that there was no bad blood between the president and his deputy and that Ruto and Rigathi enjoyed an amicable relationship.

He emphasized that before proceeding to Masinde Muliro Stadium for the Madaraka Day celebrations, Ruto and Rigathi shared a meal together and ironed out their issues. Furthermore, they also sat at the same table for lunch after the 61st Madaraka Day celebrations.

“He (Ruto) was addressing the Kenyan people. If he wanted to address his deputy president, he wouldn’t have done it that way. He would have spoken to him directly,” stated Mudavadi adding that the two always held one-on-one meetings.

Mudavadi further maintained that the President was addressing the nation and the people who voted for him when he urged politicians to shun ethnic politics.

He continued, “Ruto was addressing a national platform and he did not single out any particular individual.”

During the Madaraka Day celebrations held at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi Constituency, the Head of State described the divisive politics that some leaders were engaging in as backward, affirming his government’s determination to prevent the country from being divided along ethnic lines.

“I want to assure the people of Kenya that we will not let you down. We will never regress to the politics of ethnicity or personality. We will never return to politics where people are not at the forefront,” Ruto pledged vowing to ensure Kenyan politics focuses on developing the country.

These remarks by the Head of State come barely a week after his ruling UDA party was depicted as crumbling like a house of cards by a section of leaders.

The war of words involved leaders such as UDA party Secretary-General Cleophas Malala, Governor Mutahi Kahiga, and MP Oscar Sudi, among others.

Tensions escalated when UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, on May 29, called for the resignation of Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Public Service counterpart Moses Kuria.

Malala accused them of undermining Deputy President Gachagua, further igniting the political turmoil within the ruling party.

Additionally, Malala targeted Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wa Muchomba with disciplinary actions for allegedly causing division within UDA. The targeted leaders, particularly Kahiga and Wa Muchomba, are perceived as close allies of President Ruto.
