Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has slammed a section of UDA politicians planning the succession of President William Ruto.

Speaking on Monday, January 15 during the burial of Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei’s father, the Deputy President said it was disrespectful to start debating President Ruto’s succession barely two years since he was elected.

“William Ruto was elected a year ago and has nine more years to go. You are already talking about succeeding him? Do you want to divide when the old man while he is still alive? Seriously, young people, what is the problem? You are already saying that this person will succeed in 2032? Gachagua posed.

He added, “It is disrespectful to the president, he was elected just a year ago, and he is settling down, planning his work. Who told you that you will still be alive? Nine years is a very long time.

DP Gachagua also said discussing the 2032 succession politics is insensitive to Kenyans who want development.

The Deputy President urged Kenya Kwanza politicians interested in succeeding President Ruto to wait until he is re-elected in 2027.

“I want to ask our leaders especially lets focus we help the president to succeed and if you have ambitions and you want to take over from him which is okay wait he gets re-elected in 2027 then start planning how to succeed him,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua’s remarks come after fifteen UDA MPs endorsed Kiharu lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro as their preferred presidential candidate in 2032.

A section of the MPs also asked President Ruto to drop DP Gachagua as his running mate in 2027 and pick Nyoro.

“We in Murang’a have been looking for an opportunity to rule this country, and Ndindi Nyoro is the best fit and this is our opportunity,” said Gatanga MP Edward Muriu.
