Drama as DCI temporarily stop Matiang'i from accessing offices

Matiang'i on Tuesday, March 7, honoured his summons by arriving at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) minutes after 8 am

Matiang’i on Tuesday, March 7, honoured his summons by arriving at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) minutes after 8 am.

However, there was drama at the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road after police at the gate temporarily stopped former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his lawyers from accessing the DCI officers.

Officers said they wanted to consult first on who should accompany him.

This saw the former CS who was in the company of lawyers Danstan Omari, Otiende Amollo and Okongo Omogeni stand outside the gate for almost ten minutes while waiting.

The lawyers complained about the move saying it was uncalled for.

“You can stop the supporter but the lawyers have to get in,” said Omogeni.

Tens of supporters had arrived there and cheered Matiang’i as he alighted from his car.

There was a commotion at the entrance of the DCI headquarters after Matiang’i’s vehicle dropped him a few metres from the main gate.

His entourage questioned why the Government agency had chosen to have the former CS access the premises on foot.

The former CS was in the company of elected leaders and his allies including his former Defence colleague Eugene Wamalwa.

The former CS had been summoned to appear before the DCI at 9:30 am for questioning over an alleged police raid that took place at his Karen home on February 8.

However, his legal team led by lawyer Omari maintained that they would present their client at 8 am to answer the questions of the detectives.

The CS is being investigated for allegedly publishing false information regarding the February 8 raid which they denied took place.
