EACC summons former governor over multimillion road tender scandal
EACC has announced the summoning of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati over road tender scandal.
In a statement dated Friday, April 11, EACC revealed that the former county boss presented himself to EACC detectives in Bungoma for interrogation on Friday.
The governor is reported to be a suspect in investigations being done on Ksh70 million road tenders that were awarded by the county government.
The tenders were awarded during the tenure of Wangamati.
“Following summons by EACC, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has, today, Friday, 11th April 2025, honoured the summons and appeared before Investigators at the Commission’s Western Regional Offices in Bungoma, where he is currently recording a statement,” read the statement in part.

According to the anti-corruption body, the former governor was a beneficiary of the tenders.
EACC documented that the multimillion-dollar tenders were given to companies linked to him and his relatives.
“The former Governor is a suspect in an ongoing investigation into allegations of theft of public funds in the Bungoma County Government through the irregular award of road construction tenders worth Ksh70,205,882 to companies linked to him and his five brothers during Financial Years 2017/18-2021/22.
“The outcome of the investigation will inform appropriate action, which may include criminal prosecution of any persons found culpable and recovery of lost public funds,” EACC added.
