Eliud Kipchoge sends a message to fans promising to make a return after failing to finish the race at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge on Sunday reinforced his love for track events and sent a cryptic message promising to make a return.

In a heartfelt message he shared on social media, the gold medalist noted that his loss on Saturday was tough for him.

He revealed that the race weighed down on him since he had worked hard towards the race.

“When you are ready to lay it all on the line, to achieve something that has never been done before – one must simply accept when the tree of life does not grant you the fruits of your labour,” he stated.

“Yesterday marks a tough loss for me as I have worked towards this goal with every bit of devotion within me. I want to share my congratulations to Tamirat Tola on a very strong race today and on becoming an Olympic Champion. It’s the most special feeling in the world and I hope you are so proud of this achievement.”

Kipchoge failed to dazzle in the marathon and fell out of contention during the race’s early stages. Tola won the race at an Olympic record time of 2:06.26 to secure the country’s first gold of these Games.

Belgium’s Bashit Abdi finished second to take the silver, with Kenya’s Benson Kipruto winning bronze with a time of 2:07:00 on his Olympic debut.

In his message, Kipchoge thanked his supporters for turning out in large numbers.

“I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the many fans on the course today and around the world for your endless love and support. I hope you know how much it means to me. I will be back and the sun will continue to shine down upon us,” he explained.

“Tonight during the closing ceremony, I will represent Africa to close the Games together with the French President Emmanuel Macron.”

The Paris Marathon kicked off with Kipchoge as part of a formidable group of 14 athletes.

However, the 39-year-old’s quest for immortality was dashed as he fell off the pace just at the halfway mark of the race. With 25 kilometers to go, the double Olympic marathon champion sat in 63rd place.
