EPRA exposes list of filling stations selling adulterated fuel

The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) exposes 18 petrol stations for either selling adulterated or export-bound fuel in the market
The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) exposes 18 petrol stations for either selling adulterated or export-bound fuel in the market.
EPRA in a notice dated Saturday, September 30 noted that 12 of the stations spread out across the country were found to be selling contaminated fuel.
The selling of contaminated fuel, according to EPRA, puts motorists’ safety at risk by degrading vehicle performance and effectiveness.
In addition to impairing engine performance, contaminated fuel commonly causes vehicle breakdowns due to early engine failure.
This may lead to a vehicle experiencing issues in the middle of a trip, increasing the danger of traffic accidents.
In order to ensure compliance, EPRA conducted 7,148 tests across the country between July and September 2023.
From the tests, 1,532 of the stations were found to be compliant.
However, 18 were found to be non-compliant.
Some of the non-compliant stations were found to be selling super petrol containing high Sulphur content.
Consequently, EPRA announced that it had taken the initiative to close 14 of the aforementioned stations.
