Deals President William Ruto sealed with Nyanza leaders during his two-day working tour in the region.

President William Ruto met with local political leaders as he concluded his whirlwind trip of Nyanza, the home territory of his political adversary Raila Odinga.

On January 14, the leaders gathered in Kisumu to discuss a number of crucial socioeconomic problems plaguing the lake region.

The head of state, who was visiting Odinga’s backyard for the second time since being inaugurated in as President, reportedly reached agreements with the leaders on five deals.

The leaders requested that the President put completing the stalled Kisumu-Kakamega-Mamboleo-Miwani road project at the top of the agenda.

They suggested that as it would facilitate trade with adjacent counties, the completion of the stalled project would strengthen the local economy.

The leaders also suggested the currently under construction Ahero Bypass as another infrastructural project.

They urged the president to intervene to hasten its completion.

The leaders also implored Ruto to resuscitate the manufacturing industry of the region.

This includes investing in rice farming projects as well as revamping the ailing sugar industry by reviving state-owned sugar mills.

Koru Soin multipurpose dam was also listed as one of the key projects that the region could benefit and the President agreed to see to its completion.

The leaders also noted that there were increasing cases of insecurity in the region and requested for national government intervention.

While agreeing on the proposed development deals, Ruto urged Nyanza leaders to cordially work with the national government for the benefit of the electorate.

Leaders who attended the meeting were led by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

Members of Parliament present included; Jared Okello (Nyando), Shakeel Shabbir (Kisumu East), Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central), Onyango Koyoo (Muhoroni), and James Nyikal (Seme).
