Five face murder charge over Kitengela shooting

The January 25 incident led to the death of one person and injury of another.

For the hospitalised casualty, the DCI has recommended attempted.

The case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Kajiado county on February 2 after completion of investigations.

Investigations by the DCI, recovered three firearms and spent cartridges from the scene of crime.

Detectives say the shooting ensued from a quarrel involving multiple individuals.

“On January 26, 2026, a specialised team of experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, comprising ballistics, imaging, acoustics and crime scene specialists, conducted a detailed examination of the secured scene,” the DCI said.

“Further, three firearms surrendered by individuals under investigation were submitted for ballistic examination and the corresponding forensic report was duly received by the investigating team,” the DCI said.

A CCTV footage was also collected as additional evidence.

According to the DCI, 11 individuals recorded statements as part of the inquiry into the incident.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its commitment to the pursuit of justice, the upholding of the rule of law, and the protection of every citizen’s right to a fair and impartial investigation, ensuring that all perpetrators of serious crimes are held fully accountable through due process,” the DCI said.

The directorate said it is awaiting a response from the ODPP and pledged to take all necessary actions in accordance with the feedback they will receive.
