The courtroom on Tuesday was charged with high-profile legal experts as some of Kenya’s most prominent lawyers sought to defend Njeri, amid uproar by Kenyans on social media who were calling for her immediate and unconditional release.
Njeri’s defence team also featured notable figures, including former Vice President and Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka, Senior Counsel John Khaminwa, Senior Counsel Eugene Wamalwa, Dan Maanzo, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Eric Theuri, and Ndegwa Njiru, alongside representatives from the LSK.
Their united front highlighted the gravity of the case and pointed to the complex legal issues at stake. Outside the courthouse, dozens of Kenyans gathered, singing songs and demanding the immediate release of Njeri, who has been in police custody since Friday.
Maraga, while defending the developer, castigated how Njeri was detained, arguing that there was a sinister move behind her apprehension on Friday.
He urged the court to release her, arguing that the police could have summoned her to present herself at any station instead of the act displayed during her arrest.
The presence of the illustrious group transformed the hearing into more than a typical bail application or preliminary hearing.

Meanwhile, Njeri faces charges of unauthorised interference with a computer system. She is accused of creating a programme that sent mass emails to the House Finance Committee’s address, effectively spamming their inbox.
Njeri was, however, released on a personal bond, with the ruling on whether to admit the charge sheet scheduled for June 20, 2025.
She was arrested following a tweet made on May 19, where she announced the creation of a website designed to facilitate public objections to the proposed Finance Bill 2025.
“I wrote a simple programme that lets you reject the Finance Bill 2025 with just one click. Click below to send your objection,” her tweet stated.
On Sunday, chaos broke out outside the police station as activists, led by Boniface Mwangi and Hanifa Adan, decried being prevented from seeing Njeri, with the gate being locked to prevent their entry.
However, Presidential hopeful Okiya Omtatah managed to access Njeri and was even pictured talking to her.
