Roselyn Akombe, Former IEBC commissioner sends controversial coded message moments after Chebukati’s exit raising questions over the commission.
Dr. Roselyn Akombe’s cryptic message after Wafula Chebukati’s exit from the commission has left Kenyans in confusion.
The former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner posted the message on her official Twitter handle, moments after IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati left office.
“Everything has an end, eventually,” Akombe posted.

Her coded message on Tuesday, January 17, which appeared to insinuate that she was happy following Chebukati’s exit from the electoral agency, elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.

Dr. Roselyn was the head of the operations committee at the electoral body before she resigned ahead of the September 2017 repeat presidential elections.
Akombe resigned from the commission and fled to the US fearing for her life.
In a 93-page report that she authored to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati three months after her resignation, Akombe says boardroom wars at the electoral body had taken such a vicious turn that she feared taking meals served at IEBC meetings.
She listed the controversial procurement of the KIEMS kits and hiring of a media company as among the many tenders that were wrapped in intrigues.
Akombe said then the chair and the commission was set up for failure by being denied staff adding that at one point, she became Chebukati’s speech writer.
“I became the de facto note speech-writer for the Chairman due to limited capacity at the Commission,” she says. “I also became de facto note-taker for informal meetings at the Chairman’s office.”
In the report, Akombe specifically pointed out to the events at the Bomas of Kenya on the night of August 8th when presidential results ceased to stream at 8.30 for 3 hours, with no explanation from IEBC staff and Safran/OT morpho consultants.
She wondered why the margin between Kenyatta and Odinga remained consistent after the resumption of transmission.
