Former Kisii Governor James Ongwae has been appointed chairman of the Universal Service Advisory Council for three years.
In a gazette notice dated November 15, 2023, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo said the former county boss’ appointment takes effect immediately.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 102K (6) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy appoints James E. O. Ongwae Chairperson,” reads the notice.

Other members of the advisory council include Patrick Muriithi, Dr Amos Omollo, Lily Koech, Francis Gitau, Joy Mutuma, Dr Ferdinand Nyongesa, Benjamin Rop and Elizabeth Limagur.
All the appointments take effect today (November 15).
Ongwae is the immediate former Governor of the Kisii County government.
He was elected as the first Governor of the Kisii County Government on the ODM ticket from March 2013 to August 2022.
However, Ongwae is among leaders shifted alliance to Kenya Kwanza after Azimio leader Raila Odingo lost 2022 presidential election.
