Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has accused male politicians of orchestrating her removal from office; citing that she was discriminated against based on her gender.

Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza now claims that his impeachment was orchestrated by national government officials and his political competitors.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 18, Mwangaza asserted that she was removed from office because she refused to be politically manipulated.

“My impeachment was not a reflection of my performance or integrity but a calculated move by male chauvinists, political competitors, and for political expediency, a complicit National Government willing to silence a woman who dared to lead.

“My removal was not a reflection of the will of the people but rather a calculated move by political competitors and the National Government, who sought to punish me for refusing to be politically manipulated,” read the statement in part.

The former governor claimed that she refused to bow to the pressures of political puppeteers who sought to use her office for their selfish gains.

She mentioned that her administration prioritized the needs of the Meru people, delivering transformative projects in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Mwangaza also observed that her removal from office was not based on any legitimate grounds.

“The impeachment process was a sham, orchestrated by predominantly male politicians who manipulated the system to remove me from office.

The National Government, instead of upholding the rule of law, actively influenced the outcome, ensuring that the voices of Meru residents who elected me were ignored,” she claimed.

The former Meru Governor further alleged that the courts were interfered with to block her from getting justice.

“If anyone had doubts on who was behind my impeachment, I invite them to keenly review the swearing-in ceremony of my deputy, yesterday. The orchestrators, actors, planners, sponsors, financiers, and script-writers of my impeachment were overwhelmed by joy and could no longer hide behind their masks anymore,” Mwangaza remarked.

At the same time, Mwangaza said she would not be silenced and would pursue all legal avenues to clear her name and expose the injustices against her.

“In the coming days, I will be exploring all legal and constitutional avenues to challenge this injustice. I will also continue to engage with the people of Meru to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met,” Mwangaza added.

This comes a day after Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia was sworn in as the new Meru Governor.

Mutuma took the oath of office on Monday, March 17 in an event held at Mwendantu Grounds in Meru County.

On Friday, March 14, the High Court affirmed the Senate’s decision to impeach Mwangaza.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye ruled that Mwangaza’s petition to block her removal from office did not meet the threshold for quashing the impeachment.
