Gachagua admits government plot to block political party launch

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has admitted he deliberately delayed the launch of his political party out of fears his move would be derailed by the government
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has admitted he deliberately delayed the launch of his political party out of fears his move would be derailed by the government.
Gachagua made the admission while speaking at a church event in Kitengela, claiming that several unnamed elements in the government were on deck to hamper the launch of his ‘political vehicle’.
According to Gachagua, he was on course to announce his party, but he had to make adjustments with his political adversaries in mind.
“You are saying I have delayed you with the launch of the party. I could not just announce it,” Gachagua confirmed.
“I said our car is in the showroom, but I knew between the showroom and the stage, it might place obstacles. So I had to make adjustments. But the vehicle is ready.”
The former DP also confirmed that the national chairman of his new political party would hail from Kajiado County.
In what was another rant aimed at the Kenya Kwanza government, Gachagua also emerged with several accusations against President Ruto, accusing the Head of State of surrendering the Bomas of Kenya to a Turkish businessman.
“The Turkish national is a close friend to someone powerful in this country. Ruto has two years to do everything he wants. The other day you saw who has joined him in government,” the former DP divulged.

Gachagua went on to criticize Kenya Kwanza allies, accusing them of being too intimidated by the head of state to call out misconduct within the government.
After several failed attempts to announce his ‘political vehicle’, Gachagua revealed in February that his new party would be announced in May 2025, although he kept further details under wraps. The launch is set to take place in Nairobi to enable the former DP’s supporters to travel from all over the country.
With the political landscape taking shape, Gachagua appears to have settled on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the new People’s Liberation Party boss Martha Karua to form a formidable team to rival the Kenya Kwanza regime in the upcoming elections.
Admittedly, Gachagua has an uphill task, especially since his team is set to come up against a faction comprising the top two candidates who collectively garnered a majority of the votes during the 2022 general election.
