Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is set to end months of speculation as he revealed when he will launch his new political party.

While speaking during a church service in Juja on Sunday, May 11, Gachagua revealed the party launch will be preceded by a massive celebration, signalling a new chapter in his political aspirations.

According to Gachagua, the new party would be unveiled this week, nearly seven months after his impeachment.

“This coming week I will launch my party and there will be a huge party afterwards, and I hope you will all attend,” Gachagua said.

The former DP also suggested there would be attempts by the Kenya Kwanza government to try to scatter Mount Kenya votes by also deploying presidential candidates and political parties in the region – something he says he would not accept.

“I know Ruto will be launching smaller parties. He will even try to field presidential candidates in the mountains, but we will not accept. People know their party, and they will know their candidate in due time,” Gachagua added.

Gachagua’s anticipated date for his new party launch is Thursday, March 15. The event is expected to have the unveiling of the party name, slogan and colours.

In March, the former DP said his new party will have strong leadership from Kajiado, with the national chairman hailing from the county.

Gachagua also aimed a dig at President William Ruto following the appointment of a new commissioner for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The former DP remained unfazed over potential rigging of the 2027 polls, insisting that polling station votes remained final and the IEBC was merely the facilitator.

“The issue of the IEBC, don’t worry. The Supreme Court in 2013 ruled that the polling station result is final. That is important. Those in the IEBC are tallying their work. So there is no problem. The important thing is to register to vote,” Gachagua insisted.

On their newfound alliance with the likes of Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua and Fred Matiang’i, Gachagua did not rule out any of the allies as the potential candidate to be fielded to take on Ruto in 2027.
