Gary Neville downplays Arsenal’s top four chances

Arsenal’s top four chances downplayed by former Man United full-back insisting Gunners’ lack of experience

Gary Neville believes Chelsea and Manchester United will have to “blow up” for Arsenal to finish in the top four this year,

The Gunners nearly missed qualifying for the Champions League on the penultimate day of the previous season, and Neville is not sure how much better they will do this time around.

The former United full-back believes Arsenal wasted a chance to finish in the top four in 2021–22 and he continues to be concerned about their inexperience on the bench and on the field.

Neville on Arsenal’s top four chances

‘I just worry about the experience in terms of a young manager,’ Neville said on The Overlap.

‘To be fair, it’s not unfounded, the evidence is there! Last season, Arsenal should have finished in the top four. But, in the end, the experience of Antonio Conte, the experience of the Tottenham Hotspur players (meant they didn’t).

‘In that game, Spurs’ experience on that night it was alarming how naive Arsenal were and how short they were. My concern is just purely around (that).

‘I know Chelsea and Manchester United are struggling a bit in terms of where they are and they might both blow up, but I think will both have to happen in order for Arsenal to land in the top four.’

Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City were added to Arsenal’s roster this summer, and Fabio Vieira, who joined from Porto, appears to be a bright future for the club.

Arsenal will get their chance to lay down a marker when they get the 2022-23 Premier League season underway against Crystal Palace on Friday.
