Give Raila, and Kalonzo enough rope to hang themselves; Ruto comments on EALA nominations

Ruto has asked his Kenya Kwanza MPs to give Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka ‘enough rope” in the EALA nominations.

President William Ruto was speaking on Wednesday at State House during a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting.

“For our brothers let’s give them enough rope to hang themselves,” an MP quoted the President as having said.

Ruto’s idiomatic statement was taken to suggest that he had requested his troops back the favored candidates of the two opposition leaders.

Winnie Odinga, the party boss’s daughter, has been put forward by Raila’s ODM party.

Kennedy Musyoka, the son of the Kalonzo family, has been chosen by the Wiper party to represent Kenya at the EALA in Arusha.

Azimio coalition had also in their list Winfred Mutua, Hellen Ndeti, Suleiman Shahbal, Justus Kizito, Mohammed Diriye, Beatrice Askul, Timothy Bosire, Kanini Kega, Jeremiah Kioni, and Fatuma Gedi.

Nominees fronted by Kenya Kwanza Alliance include; former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former nominated Member of Parliament (MP) David Sankok, former Nandi Woman Representative Zipporah Kering, Rebecca Lewoiya, Godfrey Karobia, Joel Nyambane, Fredrick Muteti, Falhadha Dekow, Abdikadir Omar, Anne Too, Jonas Kuko, Cyprian Iringo, Lilian Cheptoo, Yasser Ali and Salim Mohammed.

Parliament will on Thursday vote on Kenya’s nominees to the East African Legislative Assembly.

The National Assembly has already approved a Special Sitting on Thursday, November 17, 2022, to vote on nine members to represent Kenya in the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge and his Senate counterpart Jeremiah Nyengenye said the two Houses of Parliament are expected to settle on five members from the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and four from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
