DCI detectives arrests Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza son and brother linked to the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
According to reports, detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have so far arrested five suspects in connection with the murder.
The suspects include; Kenneth Mutua, Fredrick Muriuki, Franklin Kimathi, Timothy Kinoti (son), and Murangiri Kenneth (brother).
The police seek to detain them for 21 days to allow detectives ample time to conduct thorough investigations.
The request was filed at Kiambu Magistrates Court hours after the case was transferred from Meru to the Nairobi Metropolis.
The DCI officer overseeing the investigations stated that the accused reached out to the Meru blogger, stating that he would arrange a meeting with Mwangaza in order to negotiate a ceasefire.
As a well-known opponent of Mwangaza’s leadership, Sniper accepted the request in the hopes that they would work together.
According to the DCI officer, Sniper left his home in the Igembe South sub-county and traveled to Meru town, where he met the accused individuals before going missing.
“The deceased’s wife tried to contact him in vain prompting her to report the matter at Maua Police Station,” read part of the court document.
The DCI officer stated that the blogger’s body was found at Mutonga River days later.
Per the detective’s claim, preliminary investigations linked the accused persons to the blogger’s murder.
“The investigating team has vital information that more other people who were involved in the commission of the offense are yet to be arrested,” the DCI officer stated.
“The respondents (accused) have to undergo formal police procedures which include but are not limited to recording statements, interrogation, and subjecting them to mental assessment among other actions.”

Speaking to the press on Friday, Kawira Mwangaza’s Chief of Staff, Nchamba Mbithi, stated that the bodyguard was taken into custody by police officers on Thursday evening.
He faulted the frequent arrests on Mwangaza’s staff, claiming that they live in fear over the matter.
“I am here and we’ve seen all this propaganda on social media of my arrest. I state that if I’m needed to record a statement at the police station, I will do so willingly,” he stated.
This comes after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki promised that justice would be served comprehensively for the murder of Meru blogger, Sniper.
“Those responsible for organizing, financing, and executing the cruel murder of Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper, have a date with justice,” Kindiki remarked on December 29, 2023.
