Government alleges Uhuru Kenyatta gave Azimio KSh 40m to organise protests

Ruto government claims Uhuru Kenyatta during a pre-protest meeting gave Azimio KSh 40m to organize nationwide demonstrations

Ruto government claims Uhuru Kenyatta during a pre-protest meeting gave Azimio KSh 40m to organize nationwide demonstrations.

The government and opposition have escalated the war of words over the ongoing protests in the country.

President William Ruto and his lieutenants claim retired president Uhuru Kenyatta is funding the opposition to undertake its mass action protests.

According to a publication by a local daily, the government claims Uhuru has been part of the pre-protest meetings the opposition has been having.

They claim Uhuru gave KSh 40 million to the Azimio coalition to organize last week’s protests.

However, Uhuru’s handlers have denied the allegations saying the former head of state is preoccupied with the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The latest claim comes after Ruto warned the Azimio leaders vowing to conclusively deal with Odinga politically and also presumably have Uhuru swept away by the government’s wave.

In addition, Interior CS Kindiki Kithure has accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of being among former state officials using what he called unorthodox means to derail their successors.

Speaking during a Sunday Service in Tharaka Nithi County, the CS said retired officeholders, including former Presidents, Governors, MPs or MCAs must allow their successors to execute their mandate and not resort to blackmail, and sabotage.

“All persons, including current and former political leaders and public office holders, have an obligation to follow the law. Retired office holders, including former Presidents, Governors, MPs or MCAs must allow their successors to execute their mandate and not resort to blackmail, sabotage, and other unorthodox means to derail them,” he stated.

He reiterated that the Government respects and upholds the Constitution and all its provisions, including the freedom of association and assembly, the right to demonstrate, picket, and petition.
