Government employee charged for forging KCSE certificate

A Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) employee who was arrested over allegations of forging an academic certificate has been arraigned.
The accused, Edwin Amagola Munyeti, was apprehended by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore on Tuesday, the court heard that Munyeti, who formerly worked as a Marketing Assistant at NAWASCO, used a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to secure employment.
He had allegedly purported that the certificate was genuine and issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
According to the EACC, as a result of the forgery, the accused unlawfully received Ksh.9,080,267 in salary payments drawn from public funds between March 2010 and December 2023.
EACC had recommended five charges, among them forgery and fraudulent acquisition of public property, which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved.
During the hearing, Munyeti, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges levelled against him.

The prosecution, through Thelma Nanjay, prayed that the matter be scheduled for mention for purposes of serving documents to the accused person and for pretrial.
On his part, the accused prayed for leniency in bond, arguing that he is a family man and that he is currently unemployed.
Since the prosecution did not oppose bail terms, the court granted the accused person cash bail of Ksh.200,000 with an alternative of Ksh.500,000 bond.
The matter was set for mention on May 26, 2025 in open court for pretrial directions.
