The operation was carried out in the Eastleigh area and involved the Kenya Dairy Board, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Kenya Revenue Authority.

The team sealed off the area after receiving a tip from the Kenya Dairy Board surveillance team.

They discovered three consignments of powdered milk packaged in tins and sacks of 25 kilograms each.

According to a Citizen TV report, the consignment, which contained roughly 650 bags weighing 25 kilos each and was labeled Brookside Dairy of Uganda,  had no documentation.

The seized consignment was transported to KRA go down on Mombasa Road in three trucks for lawful custody as the investigation continue.

It is believed that the milk was imported from Uganda and was being sold at a lower price than locally produced milk.

The operation is a major blow to the illegal milk trade in Kenya and is a victory for the government’s efforts to protect local dairy farmers and consumers.

The recovered milk will be destroyed, and the suspects are facing criminal charges.

This comes after Brookside milk processing firm slammed the government for cutting down export permits for its powdered milk from Uganda.

The Kenyatta family-owned company noted that a few of the permits they get are often delayed by authorities in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, August 5, paid a courtesy call to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The meeting drew instant speculation due to the political situation in the country and the political tiff between the former Head of State and President William Ruto.

In a press statement, Uhuru’s office revealed that the former Head of State traveled to Uganda in his capacity as the facilitator of the peace talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The former Head of State briefed Museveni on the ongoing peace process in the Central African country.

“The two leaders deliberated on the ongoing peace processes geared towards the realization of lasting peace and stability in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo” read the statement in part.
