Government issues orders on Embarambamba and Bishop Johanna controversial content

Government through KFCB orders content by controversial artist Chris Embarambamba to be pulled down from all streaming platforms

Government through KFCB orders content by controversial artist Chris Embarambamba to be pulled down from all streaming platforms.

In a statement, The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) castigated inappropriate content being shared online of recorded religious content by a preacher known as Bishop Johanna.

Other controversial content that was ordered to be removed from streaming sites belongs to gospel artist William Getumbe.

“A demand letter has been issued to Embrambamba and Getumbe to remove any inappropriate content from their various platforms. Failure to comply will result in legal action in accordance with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya,” the order read in part.

Additionally, letters were issued to different social media platforms to pull down the two controversial songs.

For Johanna, KFCB regretted that he belonged to a group of adults who were using religious influence to mislead the public through indecent exposure performances.

The government warned the content creators that while the constitution offered freedom of creativity and expression, it should not be misconstrued as absolute.

With students breaking for midterm, parents were urged to ensure they did not have access to such obscene content.

“In cases where children have access to the internet and smart devices, parents/guardians must exercise responsibility to ensure that minors do not access inappropriate content,” the statement read in part.

With many young people tapping into the creative industry, especially content creation, they were warned to adhere to existing Kenyan laws.

This involves creating content that upholds our culture, moral values, and national aspirations, while also ensuring that they do not expose minors to harmful material.

Kenyans who encounter obscene content are encouraged to report it to: info@kfcb.go.ke.
