Police shoot colleague dead within court’s compound
A police officer shoots dead a colleague officer (prison warder) following a bitter altercation just behind Kitale Law Courts.
According to reports, the said police officer turned the gun on himself after ending the life of the prison warder in broad daylight.
Preliminary reports indicate that the police constable injured himself in the attempted suicide.
The killed prison warder, who was a driver, was waiting to take remand prisoners from the Law Court to the prison.
It’s not clear what sparked the shooting, which took place at 4 pm next to the Kitale law courts. According to reports, the suspect, armed with a pistol, opened fire on the prison officer after an argument.
From videos shared online, another prison warden was seen fleeing from the scene and traders in the area also closed down their businesses as tension built.

It is not yet clear what triggered the bitter exchange compelling the police constable to shoot dead his fellow officer.
Further reports indicate that the area was a no-go zone for over 30 minutes as the armed officer dared to harm anyone who came near him.
Other officers known to him pleaded for over 30 minutes but to no avail.
However, they noticed him wreathing in pain and bleeding.
They then managed to surround him and tactically disarmed him. He was then handcuffed, bundled into the police car, and rushed to Kitale County Hospital with wounds to his hand and leg.
Area police officers have hence launched investigations to determine what triggered the altercation.
The body of the prison officer was taken to Kitale County morgue awaiting a postmortem examination.
