Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Haji Abdirashid has strongly rejected claims that he posed any security threat during his recent trip to Kenya.

Through a statement on June 28, the Deputy Prime Minister dismissed the allegations as false, baseless, and entirely unsupported by any facts on the ground.

He maintained that at no point did he engage in activities aimed at undermining Kenya’s security, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.

“I am aware of allegations circulating on social media regarding my recent travel to the Republic of Kenya. I reject these allegations in full. They are false, baseless, and unsupported by fact,” stated Haji.

He maintained that he carried out his public duties with full respect for the rule of law and regional peace throughout his visit.

“At no time did I engage in any activity aimed at undermining the security, sovereignty, stability, or territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya or the Federal Republic of Somalia. I have carried out my public duties with full respect for the rule of law, regional peace, and good neighbourly relations.”

Abdirashid acknowledged Kenya as one of Somalia’s closest and most valued partners, noting the deep support Nairobi has extended to Mogadishu over the years.

He pointed to Kenya’s role in hosting Somali refugees, supporting humanitarian work, and advancing regional security as contributions worthy of recognition.

He further reaffirmed his personal commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations across trade, security, and infrastructure.

The trouble began when Abdirashid arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on June 24 carrying a valid Somali diplomatic passport and visa.

Immigration officers flagged him on suspicion that he was also in possession of a Kenyan passport that had been fraudulently obtained.

When authorities asked him to surrender the document, he reportedly declined, saying he would only produce it before a court of law.

He was held at the JKIA VIP lounge before being placed on a return flight to Mogadishu, effectively barred from entering the country.

Security sources further linked him to alleged attempts to destabilize Kenyan border towns and arm clan militias along the Kenya-Somalia border, claims he has fully denied.
