The government will soon propose new regulations aimed at taming the rise of femicide cases in the country.
As revealed by the Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga on Tuesday, November 5, plans for the new regulations were detailed by Economic Advisor Moses Kuria at a meeting organized by the State Department for Gender.
The new regulations will target short-stay apartments such as Airbnb and phones.
“Hon. Kuria also said that soon there will be regulations through the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) that will be monitoring Airbnbs, Phone transactions and conversations that will help in tracking criminals such as the ones conducting GBV cases more so femicides,” read the statement in part
“This regulation will be of great help, we should not be blaming the Air BNBs because they are there for business it is the culprits who are portraying a negative image of Airbnbs but through the regulation that will be put in place, they will be nabbed.”

Meanwhile, parents were urged to monitor their children and social media activities during the holiday.
In recent weeks, victims of the cases have been young girls in colleges and universities.
“All this problem starts with the social media platforms and strangers, we as parents have a role to play in monitoring our children using social media,” the Deputy Spokesperson added.
According to the police, there are currently 97 femicide cases under investigation.
