Government warns public of social media account impersonating newly sworn-in CS

The Ministry of Health has warned Kenyans about social media account (an X account) impersonating newly appointed Health CS Dr. Debra Barasa

The Ministry of Health has warned Kenyans about social media account (an X account) impersonating newly appointed Health CS Dr. Debra Barasa.

In a statement on Sunday, August 12, the Ministry disclosed that the X account, @Deborah_Mulongo, was falsely attributing itself to the new Cabinet Secretary.

“ALERT: A fake X account, @Deborah_Mulongo, is falsely posing as the Cabinet Secretary for Health and spreading misinformation. Please be aware this is not the official account,” read part of the statement.

It confirmed that the official X account of Dr. Barasa is @deborabarasa, urging the public to follow the account for updates.

“The legitimate account is @deborabarasa. Follow the official account for accurate and timely updates,” the Ministry added.

This come after revelations that the official account of the Health CS had 799 followers with no blue checkmark and was created in July 2012.

The flagged account by the Ministry of Health had 4,072 followers and it was created in March 2020. 

A section of netizens called on the Ministry of Health to ensure the official account of the CS is verified for easy identification.

Dr. Barasa was among the 19 Cabinet Secretaries sworn in at State House on Thursday, August 8, in an event witnessed by President William Ruto.

The new Health CS took over from Susan Nakhumicha, who was not retained by the Head of State in his new broad-based Cabinet.
