Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang has confirmed the firing of over 1,500 county employees after a crackdown on illegally hired staffers in his county.
Speaking to the media on September 21, Sang said that anyone who had been involved in the hiring process would face the full force of the law.
Insisting that no one is above the law, the governor said that it does not matter whether they are the relatives of the governor, the deputy governor, the county public service board members, county ministers or the county officers, they will all face the law.
He went on to urge the county public service board to take over the investigation process starting next week and make sure that it ends within the next month or two.
“Within the next month or two, we should be able to be done with that process so that then we have staff that are legally and procedurally recruited. We also have staff whose credentials and qualifications are clear and ascertained.” He noted.
Sang further affirmed that the process will also ensure employees are hired within the right job groups commensurate to their qualifications and their years of experience.

Warning the individuals against interfering in the process, the governor said, “Any individual who will attempt to disrupt the functioning and the operations of the County Government of Nandi will be dealt with as any criminals or offenders of the law.”
This warning he said, applied to operations within revenue collection sector, health facilities and any other of the county offices.
He then urged all that feel they have been unjustly handed termination letters to follow the right procedure to submit their claims.
“If you have an issue, the options are clear, the letters of termination or revocation were given to them. It gives them 14 days for you to raise the matter with the public service commission.” He clarified.
This follows intense social media controversy involving several Kenyans accusing the governor of nepotism in the hiring of county staff.
The situation mirrors the firing of 600 casual workers in Trans Nzoia County on September 19 by word of mouth as counties scramble to kick out misconduct in the devolved units.
