Governor Orengo challenges ODM over broad-based government
Siaya Governor James Orengo has challenged the ODM party to stand by its principles even when in the broad-based arrangement.
Speaking in Siaya County on Friday, April 11, the county boss opined that the party ought not to be satisfied with the status quo.
He added that the party needed to have plans to challenge for the presidency in 2027. Orengo acknowledged that Raila had hinted that the party would be fielding a candidate in the 2027 polls to challenge Ruto.
“As a party, we cannot be in a position where we are satisfied with the status quo. We must always challenge the status quo.
“As a party, if we want to move ahead, we must be ready to challenge the status quo,” he remarked.
Orengo has been among the few ODM leaders who have been critical of the government after ODM signed a deal with UDA.
As recently as this week, the county boss hit out at the government over the attempts to prevent Butere Girls from staging their Echoes of War play.
“US Supreme Court:’Neither students nor teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.’ Hongera Butere Girls High School,” Orengo added.

Meanwhile, at the Friday funeral, Energy CS defended the broad-based arrangement, stating that he trusted the decision taken by Raila.
He expressed that Raila had never disappointed them; hence, when the time came for some of them to join the government, there was no hesitation.
“I want you to know that those of us who are mentored by Raila never go wrong because we believe in him. When the decision was made for us to join the government and help stabilize the country and economy, we could not doubt Raila whatsoever.
“I want to appeal to our leaders here to know that Raila is ever right,” he stated.
