Holy Family Basilica defends its decision to deny protestors entry during the anti-finance bill demonstrations in Nairobi.
In a statement, Archbishop Philip Anyolo explained that the Holy Family Basilica hosts the Catholic parochial School within the compound and its concern was the safety of the children.
“The compound hosts a school, and our personnel consistently maintain the safety of the young children. The Church is also responsible for ensuring a duty of care for the young ones in the Holy Family Minor Basilica Catholic Parochial School,” read the statement in part.
Archbishop Anyolo noted that the Holy Family Basilica is an open place to all people of God and Kenyans at large.

“We wish to affirm that the Holy Family Minor Basilica will always endeavour to be a sanctuary for all people of God, remaining open to the public. We regret any misunderstanding following the current concerns about Finance Bill 2024 and will continue to strive to be a sanctuary of worship,” Anyalo stated.
He further expressed solidarity with members of the public calling for a better future for the country.
“We appreciate your understanding and stand in solidarity with all who work towards a better future for all Kenyans,” Anyolo added.
His statement comes after Kenyans on social media criticized Holy Family Basilica for denying protestors entry during the demos held on Tuesday and Thursday.
