Police officers and detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have raided Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s home in Kitale town.

Anti-riot police officers were forced to disperse a huge crowd that had gathered outside Natembeya’s home on Monday, May 19, morning to confront the officers.

The DAP-K Party in a statement on Monday confirmed there was a heavy police presence outside Natembeya’s Kitale residence.

“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well masked, have gained access to Governor George Natembeya, Milimani’s home in Kitale. Such Moi tactics won’t work in the current life. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the party stated.

This comes after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka exposed an alleged scheme to arrest Natembeya.

Speaking on Sunday, Kalonzo said the authorities were planning to raid the governor’s residence on Monday.

Kalonzo explained that the idea is aimed at tarnishing Natembeya’s name, and then he would be released without being charged.

“Governor Natembeya is threatened as we speak; on Monday, May 19, they are supposed to obtain a search warrant to search his house. The intention is to have the governor arrested, for the people of Trans Nzoia to see that their governor has been arrested, and then he gets released. We are on the lookout to see if they dare arrest Governor Natembeya,” said Kalonzo.

This comes a week after Natembeya led protests against the leasing of the Nzoia Sugar Company.

The Trans Nzoia governor was alongside other locals, teargassed while participating in the demonstrations.
